On the John Muir Trail you walk on granite that was molten rock a hundred million years ago. Your boots are on deep time and you can't feel it at all. That gap is what I wanted to render — a hundred layers, each one an entire era, the faults where everything shifted and then went quiet again. The gold is a single event buried between epochs. Hours between forevers.
